Unsuccessful :(

Remember how I said in an earlier blog that I was going to keep a jar and put all my loose change in it? Well this hasn't been a great success so far. I still have the jar on my desk, but hardly any change is filling it up :(  I had hoped to collect fifty dollars worth of change, but lets just say this is an extreme  goal. I counted yesterday and I have a whopping three whole dollars! Maybe I can get six dollars by the time semester is over.  That's my new goal: six dollars! Think I can do it? I'll let you know.

You hungry?

You never know who you're going to meet in the dorms.  Today I was walking out of the laundry room and was attacked by a group of people sitting on the couches watching a Kong Fu movie.  They asked, "Are you hungry?!"  I was a little confused but I was like, um sure.  Then they got really excited and pointed to the kitchen and said, "Take it all!"  I guess what happened was one of their fridges broke and so they had to make everything that was in it.  They made chicken, spaghetti, brownies, mashed potatoes, rice and macaroni and cheese stuff.  I wanted to help them out, so I ate their food. Ha. It was actually pretty good too.  Their names were Daniel, Jasmine, Nikki, and Mika.  I don't know if I'll ever see these people again, but hey thanks for the food! 

Apartment Interview

I decided to interview another college freshmen.  This freshmen is named Garrett and lives in the apartments.

Me: Garrett, how do you like living in the apartments?
Garrett: I love it! It's great because I can be independent and not have to worry about making my roommate mad or being too loud in the hallways.
Me: What about the cost? Is it a lot?
Garrett: It's actually not that bad.  I've talked to my landlord and he gave me a job around the apartments to help pay for rent.
Me: Do you ever feel like you're missing out?
Garrett: Sometimes, but I'm involved in many activites around campus so I've met many new people.

Unlike Amanda, Garrett feels his living choice has been a great one!

Interview

Amanda Redden is a freshman girl attending Northwest who chose to live at home.  I decided to do a short interview on her to see how she likes it...

Me: Amanda, how do you like living at home?
Amanda: It's okay.  I mean I'm saving a lot of money, but I feel like I'm missing out on the whole college experience.
Me: Yeah. :( Other than the college experience, what do you believe to be another big disadvantage?
Amanda:  Gas money costs a lot these days.  But I recently bought a scooter, so that should help.  At least until winter.
Me:  Are you going to live in the dorms next year?
Amanda: Actually I'm going to see if I can live in the dorms next semester to finish up freshmen year.  I really need to get out of my house!

Besties

As kids Emily and I practically did everything together.  We were just two peas in a pod.  She was the cheese to my macaroni and I was the music to her ears.  Our lives consisted of many carefree days making memories that would last a lifetime.  It seemed like every weekend I was either at her house or she was at mine. At my house we always played hide-n-seek down in my basement and then ate Blondie Brownies. When I stayed at Emily's we always jumped on her mini trampoline and made movies with her hundred year old tape recorder.  A couple of time our wild sides got the best of us and we stayed up all night talking about the latest gossip and sharing our deepest secrets. :0

Oh no they didn't!

After third grade our teacher told Emily and I we would never be in the same class again.  I guess the two of us talked too much together and never listened to the teacher’s lesson.  But we could not help it if we felt that third grade should be more about having fun rather than learning our multiplication tables.  When we heard this news at the end of the school year, we were horrified!  I remember telling my mom, “Never again? They can’t do this!”  I just met my new best friend and they were trying to separate us.  For a third grader, hearing this was like the worst news ever.  For awhile I believed I would never see my friend Emily again.  We quickly learned that they could try to keep us separated in the classroom, but they couldnt separate us outside of school! Haha

The First Time

Back in third grade, I was introduced to a girl named Emily Kisker (roommate now).  I remember the first time I met her...  Emily had bright blonde hair and a loud voice that echoed clear across the room.  I also remember her wearing a red and blue jumpsuit with the cartoon character Scooby-Doo on it.  I decided this girl might be a little weird, but for some reason I still wanted to be her friend.  The above picture is of us at this Soccer camp.  My mom caught us off guard with this picture, or else we would be looking hott. lol

Build a ... What?

I was really excited about this Build a Bear activity going on in the Union today and had been looking forward to it all week.  I'd never built a bear before and I thought my new bear could bring some warm fuzziness to my room.  Sounds like fun right?  Well I guess everyone else thought so too.  I get there right on time and see about thirty people waiting in line! I decided the bear was worth the wait and so I patiently stood in line with my friend Hailey. Thirty minutes later we finally reach the build a bear table, only to find ALL the bears are gone.  It was just our luck.  All that's left are these scary mummies and creepy green sea monsters. If we had been one minute earlier, those bears would have been ours. Now, instead of a cute little bear on my bed, there's a scary green monster!  I know..really cool.

Soon to be Rolling in the Dough

As I'm sure most of you know, every Freshmen has to take this class in college called Freshman Seminar.  It pretty much just tries to help you out by showing you around and making you get involved.  It's pretty pointless.  One of the requirements of this class is to go to two residential life activities.  Well I was riding up the elevator one day to my room and saw a sign taped to the wall about a residential life activities going down in the basement that very night.  I decided to attend one, since I had to eventually.  They gave me a free empty jar!  Pretty cool, huh?  They said to write down happy thoughts and put them inside. Then when you become stressed you're supposed to pull them out and feel all better.  Well, I decided to make better use out this jar and made it my coin collection jar where all my loose change will go.  I'm going to see how much money I can make out of it by the end of the semester.  Let's go for fifty bucks! Ha. Wish me luck.  

What If?

As I sat down at my desk, I couldn't decide what to write about for this blog.  I asked my roommate's boyfriend, Ethan, if he had any ideas.  He said I should write about having pets in our room.  Since we don't have any animals living with us, I thought that could be a little hard.  But then I thought, what if Emily and I decided to go to Wal-Mart and buy a fish!  We could put him in a little bowl and buy him all the fishy accessories, like colorful pebbles and fake coral to make him feel real big.  He would be named Guppy and everyone would love him.  But then, what if Guppy died?  I don't think Emily and I could handle it.  The funeral, the tears, and the heartache, none of that sounds fun to me.  I've decided a pet is a bad idea.  Instead we want to get plants!

I'm Living on a Farm!

If you've ever walked around campus, I can only imagine what kinds of animals you see. Everyday I come across so many squirrels it's insane!  Sometimes these squirrels get so close to me I swear I could catch one. The other day I saw one with a green nut in it's mouth and a scrawny long tail running towards me.  I tried to stay away from this little guy, he seemed kind of weird. There's also way too many cats running around campus.  They're always sneaking around the parking lot and jumping out of bushes.  My friend tried to pet one, but the cats around here aren't friendly like the squirrels.  I've also seen about three skunks and then a groundhog.  It feels like I'm living on farm!        

Oh Odors


 

As I opened the door to my room yesterday I smelt the wonderfulness of a tropical fruit air freshener.  Emily had decided to get a different air freshener because she thought the first one we bought smelled like old people.  I didn't really mind it though.  The only bad thing this new air freshener doesn't do, is cover up the smell of cheesy nachos and molded milk.  I told Emily she needs to clean her dishes from a week ago, but she keeps procrastinating.  This is her specialty.  Once we get rid of the half eaten nachos on the couch and dirty cereal bowl, I'm sure the smell of tropical fruit will return. 



STUPIDITY AWARD FINALISTS

In college there is a lot of free time.  Now what better way to spend that time, then by looking up funny videos on youtube??  My friends and I were bored in the dorms one day, so we went on youtube and came across many interesting videos.  This is just one of them we found where people are doing stupid things.  Check it out!

Living in the Dark

My roommate and I came home the other night and realized we had some electricity issues.  The main light in our dorm burnt out! :(  The night this happened, Emily walked into the room, tripped over our trash can and landed in a pile of dirty clothes.  Ha. I'm glad I wasn't the first one to walk in.  We had to use this little flashlight and mirror light to see.  It didn't really help much.  We told the front desk people about our problem and they said it probably wouldn't be fixed for the next three days!  So as of right now, we've just been living in the darkness.  It's been a hard couple of days and I can't wait until this light is fixed!

The other day I came back to my dorm room and was starving.  I looked under our couch, where we store our food, and saw something that caught my eye.  Pasta!  I soon discovered I didn't have a pan to cook it in.  I decided to walk down to the kitchen, to see if I could find one.  Already cooking some pasta was a guy around my age.  He saw that I was didn't have a pot to cook in and told me the front desk lets students borrow kitchen supplies! Once I had my pot, all I needed was a cup to measure the water with. The other kid cooking pasta told me to just eye it.  I didn't really have a choice, so I was thats what i did. The only bad expericence that happened while cooking, was my fork melting.  Here's some advice, don't stir with a plastic fork, it'll turn into a claw!

Wise Spenders!

My roommate and I are all about saving money. We are bargin hunters and always look for those good deals. Today we drove to the Thrift Shop and scored big time. Everything was fifty percent off! We bought an air freshner, two packs of bubble gum, candy bars, a pair of socks, wall hooks, and some makeup. All this was bought of a whopping price of five whole dollars!! At Wal-Mart the other day, we only bought necessities. We try not to waste money on stuff we don't really need, like gum and candy...unless it's half off. :) It also helps if your roommate has a boyfriend named Ethan. Then you get his old microwave, couch, and fridge! And even though the fridge had grass in it, the couch came with spiders, and the microwave had crusted butter, we didn't care because it was all free! Another way we save our money is by bringing our own dishes and then taking 'extra' silverware from the Union.
